In my quest to get one day of skiing every month of the year a friend and I hiked and skied Kashevaroff Mountain on Saturday the 2nd. The snow didn't start until about 2/3 of the way up the trail. The trail is in good shape. Pretty soft from all the rain we have been getting. It looked like nobody has been up there in quite a while. We didn't see any footprints or tire tracks from ATVs. A bear has been using the trail all the way up into the snow. The skiing was great. Right from the summit all the way down to the snow line. We skied up the ridge on the lookers right. We came down the left ridge about twenty-five yards before we dropped down the face. We lucked out with the weather. Not even a hint of breeze and high overcast all day. A great round trip that I would suggest to anyone.

Although I've hiked Kashevaroff a few times, I've never skied it. Did you start at the turnout on the Chiniak hwy or from back in Bell's Flats?
I hear there's a more direct ascent from the west that might be good for touring skiers. It would start somewhere in Bell's Flats, maybe off Noch Dr. or Panamarof Creek Drive (just beware of Private Property). I can't make out this spur trail on Google Earth, though the main Kashevaroff Trail is clearly visible. Is anyone on here familiar with this trail?
Isn't it great to have good skiing in mid-June? My girlfriend and I are heading out to Pyramid after work. The north bowl is getting good reviews...

We started from the turnout on the highway. It would be nice to be able to get closer. It was a rough morning, especially after the promotion/ going away party the night before.
